ABOUT
The recognition that all beings share a state of change and dissolution transforms our attitude toward the Other. Rather than treating the Other as a fixed object, it allows us to view them as a state of being that requires active attention and care. This perspective demands an experience of slowness, enabling us to perceive the subtle changes revealed over time, and opens up the possibility for different existences to form relationships based on this shared condition.
Yaerin's practice begins from the realization of sharing this state of change and dissolution through the medium of ceramics. Ceramic serves as a medium where fleeting life and eternal temporality intersect, acting as a sensory archive condensed with time and memory. Solid stones that appear unyielding and filled within are transformed into fragile, hollowed structures, while the fragility and ephemerality symbolized by moss and flowers are coated in porcelain slip and fired, causing the original forms to burn away and transform into enduring, durable matter. Through this firing process, ceramics emerge as a medium fraught with unpredictable changes and traces, exposing the boundary between what has vanished and what remains.
